There are a few alt-biker outlets that remind me how close cycling culture is to skateboarding. I know I’m not the first person to point this out. Terry B even got a Jenkem profile. Come to think of it, I got into cycling precisely because of its easy translation from skateboarding. When I was in high school, one of my homies got a PureFix and we spent a whole afternoon learning to track stand in a parking lot. Then I saw Cardiel in Macaframa and it was a wrap. I could have stayed on that straight and narrow and become a cool countercultural cyclist, but instead I moved to Amish country for college and got absorbed with road racing. There was something about the increase in speed, the cacophony of freehubs and pedal strikes that I couldn't go without, and so I found myself moving through the ranks of the regional amateur cycling scene until eventually grad school got in the way. Like many, I fizzled out. These days I think there is a balance to be struck. Let's put it all together. CURB is a platform for cycling's underbelly; for dented A-bikes; for single-speed cyclocross; for alleycats, fixed-gear crits and pie-plate MTB races, written for those who have more fun and (perhaps thereby) are faster. If you have something new to say about this sport, a unique bike you want to highlight, a race you’re throwing or even a product you want us to honestly review, hit us up. Or just suck our wheel and enjoy the ride. Email pitches and submissions to curbworld.digital@gmail.com. All media is welcome.
